Neil was one of the first photographers to bridge the gap between traditional skills and digital technologies.

After three years’ full time study of photography at Leeds Technical College (City and Guilds Advanced qualifications) he began his career in specialist studio photography using large format cameras. To broaden this experience he then joined a general practice studio covering all aspect of commercial photography, including film processing and darkroom work.

A specialization developed in maritime photography and public relations commissions. The maritime work embraced port operations, shipbuilding and repair, passenger vessel operation, fishing and scientific vessel operation. The PR work ranged from products and processes to presentations and Royal Visits.

Working with consultants pioneering the use of desktop printing technologies created an awareness of digital imaging and reproduction, so Neil taught himself how to use Photoshop. This led, in 1997, to the decision to go freelance, developing the new techniques alongside conventional photographic services.

Some traditional work remains but the emphasis now is on digital still and video camera use supported by screen-based studio work using advanced reproduction, enhancement and image manipulation techniques.

Clientele Includes commercial companies ranging from agriculture, building and shipping to manufacturing, local authorities and professional firms.
